Class Overview

The Gyrotonic Method is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire person by opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency. With Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility. The Gyrotonic Method utilizes specialized equipment to guide, assist, and challenge the exerciser.

People from all walks of life take Gyrotonic classes, including fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens, accomplished athletes, and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability. Gyrotonic exercises help athletes improve their performance, and rehabilitation clients recover more quickly and fully post injury.

The Gyrotonic Method is practiced in group or private classes under the instruction of a qualified Gyrotonic Trainer.

Testimonials

“Gyrotonic is the most uplifting and incredible exercise system. Mara's teaching has allowed me to develop fantastic technique and strength and my body is fully rehabilitated and strong nowadays thanks to Mara's teaching. Most importantly seeing Mara every week is the highlight of my week, her energy, humour and love of the exercise has been so inspiring, I never want to miss a class and it is the highlight of my week. I leave feeling energised, taller, happier and fulfilled. I would also say that in the dark days of lockdown Mara's weekly sessions kept me going, I could not have got through with a strong sense of body and mind without Mara's wonderful help. I would recommend Mara to everyone, I am only sad that I cannot see her every day for class!"

“When I first met Mara several years ago I was recovering from a debilitating back injury that required a cocktail of painkillers to get me through the day.  My Neurosurgeon had told me to exercise, but I had almost given up due to the pain. Mara has a real talent for getting to know her clients, understanding/researching complex problems and introducing exercise routines that are safe, effective and fun! After regular weekly Gyrotonic classes my mobility has significantly improved, the pain is now controlled without meds and I have regained my zest for life. There have been a few setbacks along the way but Mara knows what to do to help me cope with the short term disappointment and set me back on track.

I was worried the progress I have made would be lost during lockdown, but Mara has nailed Zoom class tuition. Her attention to detail is obvious and the sessions still have the fun factor so often missing on-line.”

“Mara Vivas is a brilliant and inspirational teacher who has taught me Gyrotonic and Pilates for many years in both group and individual settings.

Mara has both a deep knowledge of the way the body works and many years of experience, which she brings to her teaching. Mara demonstrates great flexibility in her teaching which she adapts to suit every person's individual needs. Mara works tirelessly and with great enthusiasm and her joy and love of movement is infectious and inspiring.

Mara has helped me to maintain and develop my body in such a wonderful way so that I can now do many things I never thought possible, even when I was younger!

She has taught me how to maintain my body, understand it and enjoy it!”
