Class Overview

The theme of the class is playing with and exploring what our bodies want to express. We’ll take time to arrive and see what is present in our bodies, wake up our senses and work with tuning in and noticing our internal environment and our external surroundings. Class usually begins with a rest to allow the body to yield and for movement to arise from a still place. The source of the material comes from who turns up this day in class, we respond to the moment, what is present for us on that day as a collective. Movement will be generated from each individual and we will play with movement phrases and compositional scores diving into the unknown from a place of the familiar. The class atmosphere is a laboratory for movement research, sourcing material from the collective influenced by each individual’s interests. We will leave space for witnessing and learning from each other’s explorations. I’ve been influenced by teachers of contemporary and post-modern dance, experiential anatomy with Caryn McHose and Lisa Nelson’s Tuning Scores.
