Mara Vivas is an independent dance artist based in London, UK. Her creative practice includes choreography and performance, built from improvisation and process led enquiry. Mara is a part-time mentor and lecturer in Choreography at the London Studio Centre and artist-in-residence at SPACE @ Clarence Mews.
In her home town Caracas (Venezuela), she trained at Escuela Ballet Arte-Fundación Gustavo Franklin and Escuela de ballet Keyla Ermecheo. In 2014 Mara completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Dance Studies at London Contemporary Dance School. She is currently working towards her MA in Performance and Choreography at LCDS. Mara has danced around the world as a member of European, US and South American based dance companies. Her work has been performed in dance platforms and festivals in Germany, Austria, Portugal, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
Mara Vivas performance experience ranges from classical ballet to dance theatre and contemporary dance. She has danced in several companies across Europe and America including Opernhaus Graz in Austria, Berlin Ballet Komische Oper and Staatstheater Braunschweig in Germany, Ballet Clasico de Madrid and Santamaria Compañia de Danza in Spain, José Mateo’s Ballet Theater and Ballet Florida (guest artist) in the US, Ballet Nacional de Caracas Teresa Carreño and Ballet Metropolitano de Caracas in Venezuela.
During her dance career as a full-time dancer, Mara performed works by Edward Clug, Cathy Marston, Katrin Hall, Darrel Toulon, Rami Be’er, Meryl Tankard, Cayetano Soto, Marko Goeke, Olga Cobos &Peter Mika, David Williams, Henning Paar, Didy Velman, Amanda Miller, Itzik Galili, Margaret Donlon, Deborah Colker, Dominique Bagouet, Domunique Dumais, Ingun Bjørnsgaard, Blanca Li, Dylan Elmore, Joan Cleville and many others. Most recently, she peformed work from choreographer Joanna Young at The Rivert Front Theater in Newport, Wales-UK. Currently, as a freelance artist, she continues to collaborate and perform for other artist.
